Featuring: Star Jason Statham and Producer Steven Chasman

Scene 8 – “Another Delivery”

Chasman: This is the Knoc’turnal song that we used as a single, introducing our villain Wall Street, who you can see is handling the girl here. And when he sees Frank pull up, he walks calmly, and as soon as he’s out of shot shows his true character.

Statham: (laughing) Look at him slowing down. Remain cool.

Chasman: This was shot in a big house in Cannes. Matt, who plays our American bad guy, really does a great job of becoming a formidable opponent for Frank Martin. Matt was in Blade and The Fast and the Furious, and we felt we wanted to have someone who could really go toe-to-toe with Jason, and he just sort of fit right for the part. Plays a very good bad guy, very intense.

(When Wall Street’s hand touches Frank’s)

Statham: (chuckling) Glad I’ve got gloves on there.

Scene 12: “Lai”

(Hospital scene)

Statham: Here’s a man who I’m dying to meet. Unfortunately, he wasn’t at the house; we get to find him later.

Chasman: What we liked about Matt’s performance here is that in the beginning, he really seems like he’s concerned about his employee, who’s obviously been injured, showing him some compassion.

Statham: (laughing)

Chasman: And then here it is.

Scene 18: “The Heart of the Matter”

Statham: It’s very important that he did believe her for this. She’s such a great liar. (chuckles at the expression on Matt’s face) He gets a lot of pleasure, doesn’t he? Ol’ Matt. Having guns shoved in his face and being a bad guy. I think he’s great.

Scene 21: “Combat in the Containers”

Statham: There’s a bit of a surprise there from Wall Street.

Scene 25: “Attack from Above”

Chasman: A little reminiscent of Matt’s scenes from The Fast and the Furious.

Statham: I love Matt’s expression when he gets a kick in the balls.

Chasman: It was a real challenge how to fight in this cabin. It was a real cabin; it was not a set. And the truck is really moving.

(When Wall Street is thrown out of the cab)

Statham: Got what was coming to him.

Matt (at the premiere, apparently): Over there, we had a lot of freedom, in terms of just being creative, and something that’s not so much here in Hollywood. So we were just sort of let go and have a good time with it, and not so much by the clock. I seem to play the bad guy all the time, and this one was good. I lost like 40 pounds for the role and really tried to bring it together, so it was special.

Yuen: Oh, Matt. I think he’s a good actor, too, even if he didn’t do too many action movements in the movie. I remember him being a very diligent actor. He was a little overweight the last time I saw him. In this movie, he managed to lose weight in order to do the car scene.

Matt: That was it. I fasted for 16 days and tried to do it just not eating, just to try to slim down, just to be something different. Because in The Fast and the Furious, I played this vulgar bulky character, and this I wanted to be slim and sort of like a raven.
